PBB Mapping to Existing VPLS Constructs and Frame Formats

The PBB processing within the PBB PE is modeled as a chain of two VPLS contexts linked together by a “PIP” (the provider instance port, the I-component internal port connecting to the B-component); SAPs and SDPs will be tagged with an “I” or a “B” to indicate what VPLS type of instance they belong to; that is, I-SAP, B-SAP, I-spoke-SDP, B-spoke-SDP, and B-mesh SDP. I and B VPLS instances are created just like any other VPLS instance but indicating—at creation time—whether the VPLS will be “I” or “B.” Note that I and B VPLS instances can coexist without any problem with regular VPLS instances on the same node. See Figure 3.36.
